++REMEMBERING OUR LADY'S MONTH ++

October is the month of our Lady of the Rosary. October 7th is the feast day.

Within this century, 1917, Our Lady appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal. She promised the children that there would be a time of world peace if, daily, people would pray five decades of the Rosary and meditate on the fifteen mysteries (the events in the lives of Jesus and Mary).

Today, the Church asks us to devote more time to the reading and meditation of the bible.

The angel was sent to Mary. "Upon arriving, the angel said to her: "Rejoice, O highly favored daughter! Blessed are you among women." Lk:1:28. After the Annunciation, Mary visits Elizabeth who is going to have a child. "When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud voice: "Blest are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb." Lk1:41-42. Jesus taught us to pray. "This is how you pray: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come." Mt6:9. "When you pray , say: "Father hallowed be your name, your kingdom come." Lk11:2. These words of the new testament are contained in the prayers of the rosary.

Theologian Bernard Haring said, "The second Vatican Council has crowned the 'Dogmatic Constitution on the Church' with a beautiful chapter on Mary, the prototype and model of the Church. The Church cannot come to a full understanding of union with Christ and service to His Gospel without a profound love and knowledge of Mary, the Mother of our Lord and ourselves."

Let the Rosary and the mysteries bring us to that fullness and to peace.
